We have a chuckar roaming the neighborhood and he seems pretty tame. He may have come from a hunting preserve near us. He plays with my dog and goes on peoples porches. We would like to provide whatever he needs to survive winter and that's where we need your guidance. He'll still be free roaming but we want to make sure he has food and some place safe. We can build a house for him or create something into a hillside covered in brush. Please advise. Thanks!

They are very hardy birds and can survive the winter months. They just never seem to get by the predators as they are low on the food chain and somewhat easy for predators to catch. If it survived the hunters it's passed 1 hurdle.
