Hi- I'm new to this message board, so please pardon me if a similar question has been asked (I had issues with searching the forum). I'm thinking about buying fertile eggs and hatching them myself. I thought this would be a fun experience. I only want to add one or two hens to my flock. I live in the city so keeping a rooster is out of the question. Does anyone have suggestions about what to do w/the male chicks/cockerels (once I'm able to determine the sex)? If I posted them on craigslist for free, would people generally be interested? Other ideas?? Thanks so much!

I put 9 roos on craigslist last week and had a taker within 10 minutes!

Do people want to pay for the males, or is it something you would typically just give away? I'm just really not sure what interest there is out there for roosters

Depends entirely on breed and quality. Sometimes you can sell them for 5-10.00 if they're decent. Otherwise, giving them away's usually the way to go. You're not going ot make a 'killing' no matter what.

I was thinking about hatching blue ameraucanas, or maybe salmon faverolles. Would these be relatively desireable? Thanks so much everyone!

I sold my show quality purebred banty RIR roos, and gave away my mixed roosters, on Craigslist.

I usually had someone come within a couple days to pick them up.

Good luck!!!
