I have three 2 month old ducks along with five older ducks (one drake & four hens). Two of the three young ducks are drakes (head color is changing), which I don't need. I thought about selling both drakes, but I am afraid the single hen will be rejected by the flock. I already have one of the older hens that is a loaner and harassed by the drake a lot.

Should I keep one of the young drakes so the hen will have a little protection? I put all of them together today in an outdoor pen, it went better than expected since the two younger drakes was protecting the young hen from the older drake. But, needless to say feathers flew. I separated them after an hour and let the older ducks go back to the pond.

Need some advice.

Whenever you initially introduce new ducks whether it is a single duck or a whole flock feathers will fly because that's just ducks. Keep doing what you're doing and putting them together for a few hours outside where there is room to get away if need be. It normally takes my ducks 3-4 days to fully assimilate to new flock members and who knows, maybe the hen will do better once she is integrated with the rest of the flock than with the Drake's. I would still re-home them to keep your ratio. I have a Mallard that was dropped off with two other ducks who she had been with since she was a day old. Once she met the rest of my flock she immediately started flying over the partition to be with my other hens and skipped the whole adjustment period.

rehome young drakes. introduce young hen to the girl that gets bullied first. then slowly introduce her to the other hens one by one until they are all a flock. introduce drake lat
