What to dowith old girls?

i live in central California, farm country, and have a livestock auction, I sell my old girls. But my cousin lives in contracosta county, and,we can't find auctions any where around. What to do,with the old girls that aren't laying any more?

Some will cull the older hens and use the meat for stewing but you might not want to cull. Maybe ask around if someone wants a pet chicken or a friend for a lone hen.

List on Craigslist perhaps? I know I would check Craigslist if I wanted to give a bird a home or if I were looking for a companion for another bird.

Some folks allow their older past layers, a nice retirement as thanks for all the eggs they have given.

I agree, however, they have a small coop, no room for extra chickens, and they want eggs. They live in town and can't free range.
