I had trouble with the chickens digging in the feed too. Then I started mixing wild bird feed into the crumbles in a 1 to 4 ratio. I also got a perch proof trough feeder that only allows their heads and beaks near the food. Now, my waste is nil and I have to actually pitch scratch on the ground so that they get enough grit in their diet.
