What to mix with my EE rooster to get green eggs?

Hi all - I hope this is the right place to post this, but if not, please feel free to move.

I have what I believe is an EE rooster (I thought it was a hen and am deeply disappointed it is NOT!) and I am wondering what breed I would need to mix with to get a green egg layer? I have Lavender Orpingtons, Australorp and RIR as options for a hen. Will either of these work or is it kind of a crapshoot?

So you want olive colored eggs?

Yeah breeding him with a brown egg layer would make his offspring lay brown, olive green or blue.

He can be bred with any of your girls to make EEs. If he carries a blue/green egg colored gene, all the female chicks should produce a either green or brown eggs.

The color eggs the mother hen lays determines the shade of green the daughters will lay. An AustralorpxEE will produce green-light green eggs because Australorps lay light brown eggs. Same with the Orps. The RIRxEE will have a darker shade of green.

In this case, the color of eggs has nothing to do with the hens, since they all lay brown. The EE roo has to have a blue or green egg-laying gene for his offspring to lay blue or green eggs. The only way to know if he possesses this is to breed him and see what color of eggs his daughters lay. Hope this helps!

If he is an EE, likely 50% chance he carries the blue egg gene. If you really want to know before test breeding him and waiting for his pullet chicks to grow up and see what color eggs they lay, you can have him tested. I believe IQ bird genetics in Florida recently started offering this test ( before samples had to be sent to Germany, I believe).😊
