I have this little chicken coop. It was suppose to be for just two chickens. We ended up with three. THEN..got rid of one that turned into a rooster. Fell in love with two silkies..soooo, now we have 4. BUT..two are going to be re homed soon...as the city only allows two. That being said..we just recently found out our neighborhood has a covenant..which states NO livestock. I'm crushed! My kids are soooo upset. We've lived here 6 years, and this is the first we've heard of it. All the neighbors are upset, because it appears they're going after people who have sheds in their backyard. Many who have spent quite a bit of money on them. Also, we have an issue with people parking on the street. Nothing was highlighted about livestock..but, now I know I'm going against the "rules", I kind of feel it won't be long before our little flock is no more

Until then...I need help with what to put on the floor of our little run. My husband was taking the week of the 4th of July off to build them a bigger run. But, now I'm not so sure I want to invest any more money or time into this. They do get out for about 3 hours every evening. Including some time in the house
Yea..that's a mess. But, the 8 year old likes to sneak a silkie or two into the laundry room to play now that's it's getting so hot outside to be with them.
Right now, we just have some pea gravel down..and I throw handfuls of hay in on occasion. It's not very deep...so, I'm not sure about sand..or pine shavings. I have both. Just need to know what's the most efficient to help with the odor and make for an easier clean up.
Again, I know this is small for four birds. The silkies have only been in with them for about a week now. And all have done great together. Makes me sad to get rid of the older ones we had first. As they're probably going to be the best layers (production red and black sex link) But, the silkies are soooo sweet, and friendly. And have proved to be better "pets". The others we've had since they were a day old, and can hardly get near without them taking off or freaking out. The silkies..were 3 months when they came to us, and had never been held. You wouldn't know it. They follow the kids around the yard. Sleep in their laps. I kind of rather give up my dogs then them, lol. Kidding. Well..sort of
