What can I put in my brooding pen for my chicks to roost on? This is my first group of baby chicks (3). I never even thought about providing a roost til I saw Jubilee, my Buff Orp, sitting on top of her feeder jar. I guess she is starting to fly because I can't imagine she can jump that high as she is only 5 to 6 weeks old. Help please!

I put a fire log in the brooder or a large diameter limb. A piece of 2x4 sitting on end works well too. They seem to like the fire log the best. It gives them something to explore.

I start with 2x4s first layed flat then on edge and eventually block them up higher. They will rooost on just about anything but the 2x4s and a few 2x4 blocks for raising the roost works well and is easy to adjust and clean for the next time. Also at 5-6 weeks she is flying for sure.
