Hi low yall! I'm freaking desperate to add some turkeys to my family but having trouble deciding what breed fits my standards and hope anyone's experiance can help. I am looking for something as large as possible without being genetically enhanced like a breasted, something that lays a decent amount of eggs, goes broody, and preferably isnt brown. (i have alot of brown birds). Thanks everyone!

Most heritage varieties are about the same size. Royal palm can be smaller as well as midget white. Perhaps one of the larger varieties of heritage whites like Hollands. There's also blacks, and Narragansett. Most Heritage lay about the same and go broody throughout the laying season.

The breed is very easy because all domestic turkeys are the breed Turkey.

You seem to be under some misinformation. Broad Breasted were developed to be meat turkeys to be processed by the time they are 6 months old. They are not "genetically enhanced" in the way you mean.

All turkey hens are seasonal layers. Most turkey hens will go broody once they reach their magic number of eggs in their clutch. This number can vary from hen to hen.

There are many varieties of turkeys that aren't brown.

You can learn a lot about heritage varieties at Porter's Rare Heritage Turkeys.
