What type of grit do i give my week old chicks?

I have 4 chicks that are a week old. I am feeding them medicated chick starter from por-mana and i have also been giving them crushed up meal worms and i have let them outside to play for 15 minutes every day. I have read that if you give them treats and let them out side they need grit, but what type of grit can they have and were can i get it. Also is it necisary? Thank you

Yes, grit is necessary, that is what they use to grind their food in the gizzard. Commercial feed they don't need grit to process because it's already processed for them but mealworms and other things they find outside need the little rocks in the gizzard to grind them up. They sell chick grit but if you can find some bigger sand (think the size of a radish seed), that should work too.
