This is more of a story then a question.
So earlier today im sitting in the back yard and i hear an awful squawk from the chicken yard. I run around the corner fully expecting the possibility of a dead hen and some evil creature in my run that i would now have to catch and kill. As i round the corner I don't see any of my chickens, as i suspect most are hiding under the coop. Then mama comes out of the nesting box singing her egg song. So becuase the rest of the flock is still in hiding i went into the run and coop to double check. Of course at this point I'm considering that fact that i probably should have found some sort of stick or bat to take with me just in case, but it's to late for that I'm already inn the run.
I looked and looked and there is nothing in the coop or run, my girls are coming back out in the open and it seems nothing was wrong.
So, all in all I suspect the awful cry was that of mama laying her first egg since brooding her young, the chickens hiding was just a coincidence.
But my gosh the cry was just awful, I thought for sure someone was dead.
