What will I get?

I just hatched my first eggs in an incubator. :love All my chicks are doing great!! :celebrateI have a question though. My rooster is an EE; I have 3 hens: French Black Copper Marans, an EE, and a RIR. I hatched chicks from all 3 hens. How likely is it that I will have an Olive egger hen among these chicks. I know they come from a cross of a blue egg layer with a dark brown egg layer; but most articles I have read talk about the rooster being a Marans. Will it matter that the rooster is an EE if my hens lay dark brown eggs like the Marans?

It would be hard to say, depends on which gene your rooster has. That's why it is often the rooster that is the Marans, so people can use EEs that they know have the blue egg gene. You might be able to figure it out if you can find out more about the rooster's parentage, otherwise you are in for a wait, and the surprise of seeing eggs from this group as they grow up. It seems likely that you will get blue or green eggs from some of the chicks from the EE hen, at least.

I know the EE hen lays blue eggs, not sure about my rooster on his parentage but I may can find out. I bought him from a coworker when he was about 5 months old; thought he was a hen. oops!

I think you'll get different shades of green all the way to olive/khaki.
I had an EE hen among all my Penedesencas and her daughters all laid olive eggs.
I don't believe it matters whether the blue egg gene comes from the mother or father.
Congratulations on your hatch. It is fun to learn.
I hope there will be olive colored eggs!:)

My avatar EE roo produced chicks that laid everything from cream to brown, blue, aqua, green and olive, depending on what he was paired with. As PP states, your roo could be carrying the blue egg gene, or not.
Oh! I bet those eggs are beautiful!!! I want rainbow colors; I think they are so pretty when displayed all together!
