Hello all!

I am hoping someone can help me with my chicks. I ordered eggs from a farm and was told they are bantam ameraucanas. The lady said it was a BBS roo over buff hens. I'm wondering what colours I can expect my chicks to be?

My pickle is that like many other backyard enthusiasts I cannot keep a rooster, so I am hoping that understanding what genetics might be at play can help me identify a roo sooner than later.

My chicks are 10 days old. Some are black with lighter bellies and a white spot on the wing. The others are yellow with some gray on their backs. I will post a pic from my computer soon.

Thanks so much!

sorry no sexing this chicks.. the black chicks are going to mature mostly black and the grey chicks will mature mostly blue.

Thank you so much for replying. I thought that might be the case but I really have a hard time wrapping my head around the bbs genetics. I appreciate your time. Thanks!

BBS stands for. Black/Blue/Splash. so your rooster is Blue. when mated to black or none blue hens he will produce 50% blue birds and 50% black birds. self black/blue birds are dominant over other patterns. so when you cross a self black bird to say a silver duckwing or a partridge hens or wheaten hens your chicks will be mostly black or all black depending on the melanizers
