Hi y’all! I’m new to chickens, and have some worming questions. I recently discovered that some (possibly all) of my 60 chickens are wormy. Symptoms: varying types of poop--i.e. some looks like chocolate syrup; some is a gooey, foamy, milky puddle; some is a loose diarrhea version of normal--and I’ve also seen some pink pieces of something in a few of them.

A few chickens still have the healthy/normal poop (semi-firm and grey w/white cap). I’m thinking it’s worms, as I’ve found two dead round white worms, about 2” long and 1/16” wide.

I’m wondering what type of worm this is, what kind of wormer to use, and how to prevent them from getting wormy again in the future. I have two flocks (breeds are: Rhode Island Reds, Buff Orpingtons, Wyandottes, and Americanas), one flock has about 40 pullets just starting to lay, and the other flock has about 20 six-month-old roosters that I hope to butcher this month. Thanks in advance for all your help!!!

Start with Wazine. I think the directions are on the bottle. You can get it online or at most feed stores. As for preventing, if they're outside they will pick up worms. Keep the coop and run well maintained and worm them twice a year.
EDTA: I just noticed that you are planning to butcher soon. I don't raise meat birds but I'm pretty sure there's a waiting period between butchering and worming. I wouldn't bother worming the roos.

pumpkin seed work very well! just toast them in the oven and grind them up w/ mortar and pestle...
you could also feed chopped up garlic but skip eating the eggs for a week....

Was just wandering if ya all use the same kind of wormer both times in the year or if you use one and then a different , also how long do you hold the eggs for?

I use injectable Ivermectin, for cattle and swine. Put 4cc's per gallon of H20 for 3 days. Then 10 days after last dosing do it again for 3 more days. It not only kills internal parasites but external, mites and such, too. I eat the eggs when I worm and so do some of my customers, I TELL EVERYONE! The eggs taste no different, and from talking to my vet and others, the only ill affect would be if I had worms, the worms in my body could develope an immunity to the wormer. If you don't want to eat the eggs it will be a total of 26 days till you can eat them. It works.

Does the Ivermectin not seperate when you put in the water? Why 3 days? The only wormer we use for 3 days is panacur. Curious, as I need to worm my flock. Bought Fenbendazole {panacur} crumbles once but was terrible expensive. Is there anywhere one can buy this feed wormer cheaply?
