What would be the best kind of goose to get?? any one have any ideas i was gonna order a few from ideal hatchery. If any one has pictures of there geese from ideal please post and tell me how you like them. The breeds of geese i was thinking about getting were Tufted Roman,Gray Saddleback Pomeranian,Embdens,American Bufsf,Pilgrims,Toulouse Geese

i have 2 toulouse geese and i love them, my gander is a total sweetheart, even now with breeding season here...he still lets you pet him and he is just the best
....so i would suggest getting toulouse...very nice birds...if your looking for a pet...

I have two Pilgrim geese that I got as 2 year old birds - they are very docile and laid back (other than right now, because they are preparing to breed, well actually my gander is still being sweet as long as I don't pick on his woman, but my goose is getting rather hostile) and I absolutely LOVE them. I am excited about their babies and I LOVE the auto-sexing genetic. I think the mid-range in size is just right for me. I was originally planning to get Ebdens because I wanted a white goose with blue eyes, but I came across my male pilgrim at an auction (and then had to go a buy his girlfriend from the person who bought her when I figured out I had broken his heart) and I absolutely fell in love. I definately think Pilgrims are the breed for me.

I've been researching this too. Metzer Farms' site has a "goose comparison" chart. We have small children, and only a part time pond, so I am going to go with French (imported in '06) Toulouse.

If you get goslings they are much cheaper! I never realized how pricey the grown ones could be.
