What would you call this color?

Well he hatched blue and his mom is completely blue. Why do you suggest he lacks E^R? He is ether E^Wh/E^R or E^Wh/E. No dun in him.

Check his wing bays- if the wing bays are white he does not carry birchen. If they are all blue (black) or partially blue (black) and white he carries birchen.

Does he have some black pigment in his shanks? Black pigment in the shanks indicates birchen- birchen birds do not always show pigment in the shanks.

The funny looking comb indicates he is heteozygous at the pea comb locus. He is P/p. I worked with pea comb for 6 years- he appears to be a pea comb heterozygote. He most likely carries the blue egg shell gene.

Thank you Tim.

His secondary wing feathers are blue on one half and the color of his shoulders on the other half. Here are pictures of him when he was younger.

This is where if he does not have color in the wing bays but blue, that's why. Still no Birchen. If you cross an bird with E to a duckwing, wheaten, or partridge bird, you get offspring with wings very similar to birchen but not actually carrying birchen.
