"Anatomy of a Coyote Attack"
This is a really cool link , you need to read the bottom for the fascinating attack sequence........

Interesting read. I live in West central NJ. My neighbor is our animal control officer. His most common wild animal complaint is for coyotes. For some reason these coyotes use very little vocalization and therefore frequently slip in under the radar. I frequently see tracks but have only seen one coyote. Last year the second most common complaint was black bears. Yearlings traveling through have not been uncommon, but this year there were at least two resident sows with cubs.

That was long but fascinating. I have a new respect for donkeys now. I never knew they could be that good at protecting other animals. If I lived somewhere like that I would at least have one donkey

Very intresting. Thanks for posting this. In my small east Texas town, coyotes don't come into the city, but are known to be in the area. There is also the occasional cougar, bobcat, but no bears.

During the last 10 yrs or so, a lot of folks around here have been using great Pyrenees or other LGD to protect their stock against coyotes.
I've learned from friends, one must be careful about using donkeys. They suggest getting jennys,..... the jacks are just as likely to kill YOUR dogs same as they'd kill 'yotes and neighbor's dogs.

I've had dogs all my life.......all kinds/breeds....mutts, pure breeds, adopted, paid for, picked up on the side of the road.........the pyrs I've had for the last 2 yrs have been The Best!!! @ keeping 'yotes away from my place.
My pyrs come from working stock....(not show stock) and they have worked for me!!!

We have a lot of coyotes in our area and I have to agree about the Pyrenees. We got one as a pup and raised her around all our birds and she is great. We often hear the coyotes howling around us (and our dog barking) but they never venture into our yard anymore. She will also bark at hawks circling overhead preventing them from swooping down.

On the other hand she never bothers anything that "belongs" in our yard - even the rabbits that run loose. She is a great people dog and real good with kids. I brag on her all the time to others who have poultry and tell them a Pyrenees is just what they need.

I have a donkey in my horse turnout, I partly got him because neighbor dog would dig under our fieldfence in our other farm and chase my colt. My donkey grabbed him and shook him my husband said and he never came back. On the warning note, one day I had him grazing in the yard with a halter and lead and one of my rat terriers came up to his head and he grabbed him , I yanked him by the lead and yelled at him.

At our present farm they are separated by a field fence. I have seen neighbor dogs ramble thru, but he and the horses weren't in the vicinity. But he was a rescue and is bout 15 and wasn't gelded till he was about 12.....so I assume if not a large pack attack he could hold his own.( My daughters knows of a mini horse attacked by a coyote pack...he was alone and had no shelter. Their barn bought him and paid the vets to sew him up, legs and belly had to be sewn up.)

See my avatar picture. I love my donkey Violet. She, however, does not like dogs much at all. She tolerates my little terrier mix, but once tried to seriously stop an annoying yappy dog that a friend brought over. I was a bit bummed that she missed to tell you the truth!
