I have 1 male and 1 female. When she laid her first egg it was fertile and after that they were infertile. Since last Saturday she has laid constantly and they have been fertile, BUT I haven’t seen them mate. Could they be mating at night in the pen?!?!

From the noises emanating from my runner duck pen, mating may be ALL they do at night! It sounds like someone's getting busy there all the time (three drakes and seven hens).

If he didn't mate her during the day and the eggs are fertile, then yes he mates her at night. I'd keep a close eye on them because 1:1 isn't a great male to female ratio. Just keep an eye out for signs of over mating.

Yes I’ve heard about that but my male is a little slow because he had an accident when he was young in the water
