What's been eating at this quail egg?

I'm hoping one of you more experienced fellas might have seen this before and know what it was that broke into this egg.

This is an odd-shaped and odd-colored egg for my (cotournix quail) flock (I think) because one of my roosters went psycho a couple of days ago and stressed-out the hens. I found another egg just like this last evening, white and oddly shaped, except it was intact. I found this one this morning, exactly as you see it.

I found it on the roll-out of a roll-out cage, so I can't rule out the possibility that the quail did it themselves. And I have to say, that looks like pecking to me, but they've never done anything like this before so if it was my birds did this, this is a first.

But I'm thinking I had a visitor last night. That roll-out tray is about five feet off the ground but there are trees close-by that an industrious varmint might have climbed and jumped onto the roof of my coop. Or it might have flown up their.

Anyway, I'm hoping one of ya'll has seen something gnawing on an egg like this before and know what it was did it.
