What's consensus on sq ft per bird (standard size only), in a coop?

I've got 12 Marans eggs in the bator, I'm building a coop and just happen to have a 4 ft x 4 ft roof (built for small well-pump house), that I'm thinking of salvaging by making it the top of a chicken tractor.

4 feet by 4 feet is a 16 sq ft house. I've kept 8 bantams in such a small space before, no prob. Are standard breeds about 4 sq ft per bird?

I agree. Minimum of 4 sqft per bird in the coop. If you can give them more room, then do so. More IS better!
