I'd like to preface this post by saying the following list(s) are the chickens I have found to be the most attractive either visually speaking or for some other reason. I am not interested in having any roosters and the silkies and polish listed would have their own private dwelling apart from the other chickens and each other. These chickens would be kept in West Central Florida so perhaps my research is wrong and these would not do well there, and if thats the case please let me know.

I'd be interested to know which of these, if any, do you feel would be better off taken off the list (and the reason why), and which of these can be housed together or would do better apart from whom. Thanks for you contribution.

Ameraucana, Aracauna, or EE in an amount totaling no more than 6 simply because I like the novelty of the color of the eggs. EE's I'm sure are the most likely to come by.

1 Welsummer simply for the color of the egg. I don't really have any feelings regarding their appearance.

1 each of the following Polish: White, White Crested Black, Silver Laced, Buff Laced, and Golden Laced: These would be pets because I think they're pretty lol. They wouldn't even have to lay an egg as far as I'm concerned I love em!

1 each of the following Silkies: Buff, White, Black, Grey: For the same reasons as the Polish

1 Silver Spangled Hamburg
1 Plymouth Rock
1Speckled Sussex
1 Silver Laced Wyandotte
1 Gold Laced Wyandotte
1 Barnevelder
1 Dark Brahma
1 Buff Brahma
1 Dominique
1 Buff Orpington
1 Birchen Orpington
1 Gold Laced Orpington
1 Jubilee Orpington
1 Lemon Cuckoo Orpington
1 Spangled Orpington

That last long list is because I find them all the be exceptionally beautiful and produce a satisfactory amount of eggs.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts :)

Choosing is so much fun!

Welsummers are (forgive me for saying) kind of boring looking. But they are hardy, a unique breed, and lay well.

Easter Eggers are gorgeous and their eggs are so much fun! Mine doesn't do the best in hot, humid weather, but other say they are hardy

I've never owned Polish, simply as my own personal choice. I think it is fine that others keep these breeds, but I just don't want to by a breed that has any disadvantageous. My poor silkies have it hard enough being unable to jump, fly, run, fight, or see well. But they are so cute and wonderful broodies!

I just bought a Buff and a White Silkie! I'm hoping for a tame, beautiful, good broody. Hopefully it isn't a rooster/

Silver Spangled Hamburg. I have one and she is heat hardy, a good layer, not the friendliest but she is healthy and a good forager.

Plymouth rock. They are so awesome! My top rooster is a Plymouth Rock and he is respectful, nice, watchful. even if the frost-bite took his comb. I recently bought a Partridge Rock and a Silver Penciled Rock, but both appear to be roosters also, so I can't keep them.

Speckled Sussex are pretty, good layers, and friendly. I have a young one named Captain. She is still growing into her colors, brown with a smattering of white on her chest. I can't wait until I can see her beautiful, adult plumage!

Barnevelder. I hope to get one soon, but I don't think I have one. I love the Double-laced variety!

Silver Laced Wyandotte and Golden-laced Wyandotte. They don't have a large comb, but they are still pretty good in the heat, so I hear. My three Wyandottes are all still pretty young, but are proving to be pretty friendly. One has a crooked beak and is slightly smaller, but the other two are healthy and strong. I have a Silver-laced, a Red-laced Blue and a Colombian.

Dark Brahma. I think I got one as my extra chick. He is so humorous and does the funniest of things. He has crazy foot feathering that makes me think sometimes I have a new breed! It is so long all the way up his legs!

Buff Brahma. I have two, and both (perhaps due to the strain) are skittish. However, they are beautiful birds and I have dreamed of owning them my whole life. I hear brahmas don't do well in hot weather, because of the small comb and thick feathering, however.

Dominique. Haven't owned any yet, but hope to soon.

Buff Orpington. I have one and she is so friendly! She is only a month and a half old, but likes to rest on my lap and stand on my hand. They are hardy, adaptable, and good layers.

The other orpingtons you mention are so gorgeous! I really want a Jubilee really bad.

Though I would add that Australorps are great layers, great foragers, very friendly, pretty, and do well in both hot and cold weather.

Best of luck!

Thanks very much! I feel the same way about the welsummers BORING but i like the egg shell color lol. I could ditch that one and be ok with that decision lol. Of all the ones I listed i found at least one page that said they were heat tolerant but thats because i was searching hard for one so I didn't have to 86 them lol. RE the Brahmas: I could get rid of them too and be ok with that decision. I absolutely love the orpingtons and the wyandottes and the plymouth rock and the barnevelder lol I'd have a hard time letting them go lol. The Australorps I considered but they are just a big black chicken to me despite their great qualities. I want something that has some character to it in its appearance. You probably noticed a pattern in the types of birds i listed. I'm just attracted to that type more than the plain ones. Anyways thanks again!!!
