My sister and I saw a Friday Night Movie on TV (mild horror flick) when we were kids and it stuck with us for years - but we could never remember the name of it, or who starred in it, or anything, just certain details. I believe I was 8 years old at the time we watched it.

we both searched plots and movies and such for years trying to find this movie.

I JUST found that movie this year

I called her up and told her about it and she freaked. I am 45 years old, now - took us that long to find it, but we didn't give up.

Luckily it had come out on DVD so I could actually buy a copy of it.

Now I am curious. WHich movie was it?

Something Evil http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0069298/

It
was the second movie ever made by Steven Spielberg, though (a made for Tv movie) and it aired in 1972 - it was about this family who buys a weird old empty house in the country and they have a grounds-keeper guy who kills chickens and swings them around the fields (feeding the land) and there are hex signs everywhere. Well, the woman keeps hearing a child crying and she goes to investigate and can't find anything, but apparently the devil has come to visit and causes all sorts of havoc.

There's a creepy grape arbor that she chases her kid through, and a creepy shed that has bottles of liquids and such on shelves and "The Red Goo"

Oh, she painted a hex sign on her kid's bedroom floor, and they end up sitting in it for safety.

Her husband was played by Darren McGavin (Night Stalker). He was a TV Commercial producer.

It's actually sort of campy and 70-ish, but not too bad for the type of movie it is.
