whats the best type of duck??

Whats the best type of duck for a pet? I have chickens so they would be close to there coop but have there own. I like the look of the runners . Heard a lot of good things about them . I was told there friendly but skidish. I just want to find the right ducks for me

any sugestions? Thanks Scotty

Depends on what you want your duck to do.
I have 3 runners and they are friendly little buggers and they are full time comedy here. They can be a little skittish, but they are more friendly than they are skittish. They are constantly on the go for the most part, though I do find them taking naps here and there during the day.

I think you can probably make any duckling very friendly if you aren't raising a bunch at once and have time to bond with each of them and spent a lot of time with them in those first few weeks.

It really depends on what you are looking for in a duck. My Pekins are coming from Metzer farms in 2 days. I fell in love with Pekins at first sight, plus they cannot fly. I LOVE runners, and I hope I can get some too. But I have heard great things about WH, and Call ducks...

So It really depends on what you want from a duck. Pekins- Nice, can't fly, good pets...

For beginners, as a pet I would recommend Pekins.

Do runners fly? I was thinking of may be 2 or 3 ducks top for now

Runners can sort of fly, but not really.
No prolonged flight.
2 of my 3 jump off the top step of the deck and fly out about 7-8' and land. Every now and then (though it has been a while) they will run like crazy and flap their wings and they can get air that way, but only about 1 foot off the ground and again, not too very far.

The nicest ducks I have raised are muscovy's.I have raised from baby ducklings,blue swedish,runners,pekins and mallards but my muscovys came out to be the nicest.If you cant get them then I suggest either the blue swedish or runners

Are the Muscovies a friendly duck?? are they skidish or shy? Are they the type to get used to you? I liked the pics of them that i saw so far
