I'm trying to give my hens yogart and can't find a good way. I just put it in a bowl and they peck at it but they hold their heads back like they are trying to drink it. I tried mixing a little feed with it to make a paste-like out of it. They ate it better this way. What's the best way to feed them yogart to they aren't leaving a bunch of it in the bowl? Shouid I mix it with something?
Thanks!

this works really well - until they 'get' what it is...then you'll be stampeded when you bring it the next time.

you can try putting it on a plate might be easier for them to peck at.

I feed them the expensive way, but they eat up every drop. I buy the little cups in bulk at Costco. My family doesn't like the "Blueberry" yogurts so I take the cups after pulling off the top and stick them into the fence just above head height... and then it's a free-for-all... jockeying for position and eating drops that fall onto one another's heads. They love yogurt treat time.

I like mine with a spoon.

P.S. Know whats funny? Skim milk used to be a cast off, left over from various dairy processes.
It was dirt cheap and considered fit only as an animal feed supplement. It was highly recommend for chickens as a protein enhancement, though, and fed as the wet part of a a damp grain mash.

Today, we consider skim milk something akin to manna from heaven. We heat it and process it and add bacteria to it to predigest it's sugars and call it yogurt. Then we reverently proclaim its probiotic benefits far and wide as something quite miraculous.
Once it becomes yogurt, we next add gum and other additives to stabilize it and make it more palatable. Then we pay an arm and a leg for even the smallest tin of it - and feed it to our chickens.

See what I mean - funny.
