This chick pipped at the wrong end and now can't stand. Just sits on its butt kicking its legs. I've been giving it vitamins. Only a few hours old.

No. Won't stand. It's starting to tuck it's legs under it instead of straight out. Might just be a vitamin deficiency. It's not splay leg. I've dealt with that before. If you stand it up will stay standing?
It could be splay leg....
Needs to finish absorbing the yolk. Give it time to find its legs too..

No, you don't understand. The yolk is in the belly not outside its body..Big belly. That gets absorbed so yes, it will find its legs and act like a real chick should..Can take 24 hours after hatching..No. Won't stand. It's starting to tuck it's legs under it instead of straight out. It's belly is closed up and the yolk was all absorbed when it hatched. It's starting to put it's legs under it, so hopefully by morning it'll walk. Does have curled toes though.
That's interesting. I've hatched a lot of chicks and only seen this particular behavior once. I can't remember what the outcome was. This one now has splayed legs and still won't walk.
