Whats up with the honey comb?

(Hes a black australorp X rhode island red btw)
Both parents (the mother was a black australorp, and the father was the rhode island) had straight rose combs but im not sure why there offspring came with a honey comb. Any answers?

I could just be plain wrong and i might not have noticed the rooster had a honey comb. We gave him away fyi

Both Australorp and RIR have single combs (I believe) and there is no "honeycomb". Perhaps the parents were not purebred?

There was a bird with rose comb involved with the mating. Had to be, no other way for the comb on that cockerel to express. You must have other cock birds walking around.
