So I have 4 hens, one roo and 7 new chickies. Since I am new to the chicken world, everything is a surprise of sorts. Which brings me to my question: Bea and her adornments; specifically her comb and wattles.
Not only are Bea's wattles and comb red, they are HUGE. Bigger than my roo's. She came from a pullet bin at TSC, and although I know that means nothing~ she has no other sign of being a rooster. No hackle feathers or saddle feathers like my roo BIG AL. All the other hens have combs that are much smaller and wattles that don't compare. They are all 14 weeks old.
So my question is, are these signs of her being an early layer or what. she has also become quite the conversationalist. She talks more and louder than any of the other chickens. She will tell you if the snack is to her liking, she will tell you if something is not right in the yard by coming to the back door and tapping until you come out- then she proceeds to tattle on whoever has messed up. This might explain why she has become a little bit of an outcast and gets left behind often. Nobody likes a tattle tale.
Below are pics of my other chick-a-doodles for comparison, and besides who doesn't want to look at MORE chickens?
BIG Al
Maisie
Wilma
Leila
and once again the fabulous Bea~
