whats with the growling chicken? (movie)

a little growling match between me and the orpington

what gives? it seemed to be a satisfied chicken noise. she was sittin' fat and happy in the driveway, happily growing to herself.

when i brought out the camera, she stopped, so i growled a little to get her going again.


anyone have an explanation for the growling chicken? same noise as broodies?

sounds exactly like Blondie when she went broody too --- less than three weeks later, here were eight little fluffy butts (out of 19 eggs she was sitting upon)

I call it purring. It's the sound they make when they are content on a nest (or my lap) or settling in for bed. I've heard my roosters do that to get a hen into a nest too. Or when a rooster just sees a hen on a nest.

I have a hen that growls and squacks when she doesn't get her way. Imagine if they spoke!! ACK!

I, like ella, call it purring. They do that when they are just sitting in the shade resting or on their roost while I am in there talking to them. They are just content.
