My Brahma pullet is about 6-7 months old and started laying within the last few weeks. We got one a day from her for a week or so then she started skipping days. Finally earlier this week I noticed she didn't leave the nesting box. I assumed she was just broody, but how long does this last? Also, I took her out today to free range (she won't go voluntarily) and when she finally goes out she walks around and plays normally. I noticed when I took her out today that there were bare patches on her chest. Is she just feathering her nest? Any advice on how long she'll be like this and if I should be worried?

Thanks.
Scott

If she's not egg bound, I would guess broody.
BTW, is she full brahma? She doesn't look it from that pic.

Wow, I'd have guessed Wyandotte from that picture! Does she have feathered legs? She appears to have a rose comb rather than the usual pea comb of a Brahma.

She sounds broody. They do pluck the breast feathers so the skin can contact the eggs.

*****Now, that I look again, that is a Wyandotte, not a Brahma. If she has feathered legs, she may be a cross, but boy, that is definitely a Wyandotte head!

I'm glad someone else thought that besides just me. I was beginning to think I was losing my mind. (I am, but that's a whole 'nother story

She's a light brahma, but I keep waiting for those dark headfeathers....
