Hi, I have a cockerel (about a year old) who looks like he might be dying! I noticed he wasn't as perky as usual at the beginning of may but I thought he was just depressed at first as his only remaining hen was killed by a fox (our flock is clearly divided into two groups, unfortunately for him it seems that all of his hens are the ones we've lost for various reasons) but now he has really gone down hill. When I checked him we found he had mites, so we treated him and they all seem to have gone now, and he seemed to be getting better for a few days, but now he has got even worse. He is very weak and has lost a lot of weight (so much he got blown over by a gust of wind yesterday) He is eating and drinking but he gets tired quickly and falls asleep infront of the feeder. Today he has been struggling to walk. His droppings are perfectly fine and he was wormed about a week ago. Is it just that he will take a while to recover or could there be something else wrong? I've heard that often chickens get mites when they have been run down by some other illness, especially as only one other hen in the flock had them. (Also are some breeds more susceptible to mites than others as both chickens are same breed and different to all the other hens?) thank you
