Hi all,
I've been incubating a starling egg that I found in my backyard since there was no nest nearby to place it back into. Anyway, I'm on day 13 currently (out of a 14-day total incubation period), however, the embryo only fills half the egg. Nearly half the egg at the pointy end is still filled with fluid, even though there seems to be healthy veining. Embryo is alive and moving.
Humidity has been around 60-70% throughout, which was probably high. Temperature has been 97-100 degrees. I do not have an incubator, so have placed the egg under a lamp with a cup of water and have been monitoring with temperature with a thermometer. The egg has some hairline fractures that I sealed over with clear nail polish.
I've since put the egg under lockdown and am no longer turning it. Is this the best approach? Any advice on how to move forward (temperature, humidity, etc.) would be appreciated! I'm afraid that even if the chick is able to pip, that it will drown
