I started noticing that my chickens where getting spots all over them, I thought it was normal but now the spots are quite big. I don't know what to do, I've reaserched a bit and some people are saying it normal and other are saying it needs to be treated. I was also wondering if these spots are contagious to humans? All my eight isa brown chickens have this condition ( some worse than others) , they are around 9 months old, they are acting and laying normally.

Hello- I had this same problem with my 5 hens. The spots started to turn black. I did some research on the plants in my yard ...plants that are toxic to chickens/animals. We use to throw all kinds of plant leaves that grow in the back yard in the coop.. I found that the package of "grandmas plant seeds" when grown were toxic plants such as...Nicotiana Indian Peace Pipe flower seeds...It is also called Tobacco flower plant. It has the most beautiful fragrance...and also another plant that grows like a weed and each plant has yellow small flowers and the other has white and fragrant flowers. I'll look it up...We pulled them all up as many as we could and stopped throwing them in the aviary for them to "enjoy". I also gave them VETRX Veterinary Remedy in their water daily. It cleared up and has not come back. Hope this helps. :O)

By the way I just checked the bottle of VetRx 2 oz. and it is still full. It just took a few drops at a time. It treat "symptoms of colds, roup, caly legs, and "eye worm". " I feel that this did a quick job of clearing it up. It was $10.00 I bought it at Mary's Feed and Tack.

Is it from injuries you posted about in this thread?

If not, I suspect it's fowl pox. It is a virus caused mainly by mosquitos. There's nothing you can do for it, just let it run its course. I may take about a month (more or less) for your birds to get over it. You can put black shoe polish on the wart like nodules to help them dry quicker, avoid the eyes. Once this disease passes through your flock, your birds will be immune to this particular strain. This disease cannot be passed to humans. Eggs are safe to eat.
