I did a search and wasn't really coming up with anything...?

I have a hen who was in sick bay for 6 days. She had a leaky watery eye, and with no other symptoms in those days and it stopping... I assume she just scratched it.

Three days out of sick bay, I go into the house to collect eggs and she's sitting on the floor with a ton of straw piled ontop of her???? I thought she just opted to lay in a really odd spot. I came back an hour later... she was still there with more straw on her. I picked her up and she sat with me.. her wings somewhat puffed up (I assume due to a VERY hot day). I put her down and she walked back into the house with her tail sort of down and layed back in her pseudo nest and put more straw on top of her???

So now I"m stumped. She was there ALL DAY in the same spot with straw on top of her. She did have a dime-sized spot of white potty on her tush?

Is she sick? Is she confused? Am I missing something that could be a sign of what is wrong with her?

Thanks!

Have you checked her crop and her abdomen?

Maybe she has one of the regular things making her feel bad, and she just has a funny way of dealing with it.

She sure got your attention though.

This morning I let my girls out. My funky bird was still funky. She had buried herself half under the floor straw in the middle of the hen house. I picked her up, had another good once-over.... she appears healthy and happy. When she walked, she walked slower and her tail was somewhat droopy...

Maybe she has gone broody?? I haven't had a broody hen before, so I have no idea what one looks/acts like. I always assumed they would try to hatch the fake eggs in the next boxes... Hhhmm... now to search for broody behaviours!

She doesn't really make any noise. She does squish her head in (no neck). I can pick her up and hold her. When I put her down, she just walks off and sits down and starts to bury herself again???
