What's your favorite?

What's your favorite breed to own and/or breed. We have room for 1 more type! We want to be a local breeder and plan to get NPIP certified once we get moving. We have French marans, ameraucanas, cochin, polish, and German Beilefelders. What is your suggestion?

Depends on your climate.
Here's my short list.
Black Penedesenca (DP variety), meat famous in Spain, eggs rival Marans for dark color, very self sufficient and unique in many ways.
Jaerhon, small thrifty bird that can handle extreme cold and heat.
Minorcas.
Jersey Giants

It really depends, what you want and the klima zone your in.... as a pet breed Belgian Bearded Bantams are wonderful, but if you want good layers and meat they are not your bird.....
Than, what about the way you want to house the birds? Coop with roof run with some "playtime" in the garden or free range most of the time?
Do you want your hens get broody often, not that often or do you want a non-sitter?
No matter where you are and what you want, there is a chicken breed for it.

Im new to all of this, but just picked up my first bantams last weekend. No clue what they are...guess I will go over to that thread and post to find out! My only thing I like is rare. My son has a rare syndrwe were just diagnosed with, so we have a new life ahead...why not have rare chicks too!
