Anohter question ..when to stat grit.
Thought i read about 5 weeks
The guy at the farm store said he has had chickens a long time he said no too early for grit . So confused again!

Using grit really isn't about age, it's about what they are eating. If you are just feeding chick crumbles, and nothing more, then grit is not necessary.

Once you start letting them eat grass outside, or giving them treats or any food other than the chick crumbles, it's time for grit.

If they are outside, they can get all the grit they need from the soil. Providing a small container of grit can ensure that you have provided for their needs. You can get crushed granite from a feed store for them.

Any time they start eating something you yourself would need to chew with your teeth if you ate it then they are going to need grit.

As the other poster said if they're going to be outside on the dirt they'll probably find it themselves, but you can supply some on the side if you want to. They'll get it when they want it.
