We have some 2.5 yr. old peahens that laid eggs and set but the eggs weren't any good which we figured anyway. The males we have are a year old. Will they be ready next year or the year after? When do they get their tail feathers?

Males of the india will breed at 2 yrs, they will only have a short train(tail), at 3 yr they get the long train.

Most 2 yr old hens will lay, even some yearling do.

Most 2 yr peacocks can take care of 2 peahens, older peacock can take care of 4 to 6 peahens.

The Pure Green may wait until 3 yr to breed.

The Long feathers with the eyes come off the back, tail feather hold the train feathers up.

Note in the pic. of the tail feathers.

Thanks for the information. Our two hens I think are India and one of the males is also. The other male is white with some blackish brown spots. We did have a hen like him but she flew off when we released them after a few months. We couldn't find her in the field she was at and thought she died during the winter but someone said she is still over there from her noises. They said they didn't cut all the corn down before winter so she might of been feeding on that. We are going to go over to find out sometime.
