My doctor has started me on a new seizure medication. While in his office the doctor cautioned me several times about the possible side effects of the medication - memory problems, hair loss and extreme weight loss. According to the instructions that came with the med. that DH picked up last night, you are supposed to contact the doctor immediately if any of these side effects occur. In addition, Doctor cautioned me to be sure and tell DH to watch me for signs of memory loss.

It took awhile, but I finally remembered to tell DH about the memory loss thing. Haven't even started the med. yet

Last night I remembered to tell DH about the extreme weight loss the med. can cause and that I'm supposed to contact the doctor if it happens. DH said outloud what I've been thinking all along....

So how long are you going to wait until you contact the doctor? Ohhhhh, about 40 lbs.

I was thinking that as soon as you mentioned 'extreme weight loss'. Where can I get some of that?
Who needs hair anyway.....

He's not taking me off the one I've been on for 12 years. He's added a second one.

Ah....lived that for most of my DD's 26 years.

She is finally med free and has been for over a year now. She is also developmental disabled so there were other drugs that caused really bad side effects. I did not know what would happen when I took her off the meds but got a stepdown from the one doctor while seeing another one. First one did not want to take her off....second one thought I needed to at least try. Her seizures started when she was very young. There is always a chance you can grow out of them when they start young.

Layering the meds does help however. Two seizure meds sometimes are what it takes.

Daughter had complex partial seizures. She has also been seizure free this entire time. What a relief for her and for me as her mother!

I find it funny about the weight loss and good luck if you need it! My daughters MANY other meds that were layered on top of her seizure meds caused all kinds of side effects. They were behavior meds and different from what you are taking.

But the really funny part is the memory loss....don't know about you but I don't need any meds to have memory loss....seems the older I get the more I can't remember!!
