Hi guys,I have six 2 week old chicks in a brooder box in my house. It's the largest box I could find, but it seems to be a bit crowded already. Can I put my chicks outside in the garage with just a brinsea ecoglow for heating,or do I need a heat lamp as well.I think it was maybe a bit early to incubate.Just wanted to try out my new incubator.Wasn't expecting all six to hatch.Lol

That depends on the temperature in your garage.
I've heard the ecoglow will only be effective down to about 45F.
Can you add another box to get through another week?
I use the large moving boxes from Lowe's. They cost about $1.40 ea. and you can add as many boxes as needed by cutting doorways between them. Heat plate in one, food in another and water in another.

Depending on where you live, be aware of mice finding chick food in the garage 🤦‍♀️ We started ours in the garage with the MHP and then found mice stealing their food. We’d never seen mice at all before the chicks arrived. I would add another box like mentioned above. I upgraded my chicks too. They’re almost 3 weeks now though and may need another upgrade lol Honestly we have some nice weather coming so I’m thinking of moving them to the coop with the MHP. (Mama heating pad in case you haven’t heard the term. So so much info here if you search the term)

What's the temp there outside, in the garage, and in the house. Baby chicks need heat. I have a desk lamp in their very big box so they can move away from it if they get too hot, change newspaper daily, window screen covering entire top, with a board to partially cover the top, change box when it gets wet. This is just temporary, so dont worry. Keep them clean and warm.

Hi there!
I just wanted to let you know this thread is over a year old so the OP may not respond to your question.
Also...be careful with using newspaper...it is slippery and can cause leg problems.
