I have 1 duck and would like to get him/her a friend. I've been looking since he hatched but I didn't have any luck at all. Nobody up here is hatching in the snow and I can't seem to find anywhere to order 1 duck egg! lol
Anyway, he/she is now 5 1/2 weeks old. I would like to either have 2 females or one of each. I really don't want 2 drakes. When can I tell if its a girl or boy so I know what else to get?

Thanks!

You have to wait until the duck (if it's a boy) gets his drake feather. There is a thread on here somewhere where someone took a pic of the drake feather.

If you want a pic, I have a Pekin drake, almost one years old. He has the drake feather.

You should be able to tell soon by its voice - if it quacks it's a girl, if it just makes raspy sounds it's a boy. I do have fertile pekin eggs I could sell you for $1.00 an egg plus shipping, just PM me.

Around eight weeks I could start to tell the difference between my females and male. The females quack just like you would think a duck does. The male makes a raspy/hissing noise. Around 12 weeks old my male got his drake feather so I new for certain he was a he then.
Here is the link to Wifezilla's "sexing ducklings" look threw it and it has some great info:

It is located in the "Sticky" post on the top of the duck section. They is a lot of great info in those sticky threads.

Thanks so much! I know what the drake feather is, just wasn't sure when it would show up. He/she has quit 'beeping' and it's sounding more like a quack now. He was hollering last night because I took his chickens away when he wouldn't quit pulling on their feathers! lol He can see them but not get to them now and was quacking up a storm at me. I was hoping that quack meant 'girl' but I guess I'll have to wait and see.

Thanks Ducks-r-us, I might take you up on that!
