I have 5 A & Ms that are almost 6 weeks old outside. When can I put in my 1.5 wk old coturnix with them? They have feathering. We live in NC, so fairly mild. I would like to go ahead if I can b/c I want the brooder for my chicks that are hatching tomorrow.

Thanks:)

Sorry, I don't have an answer for you, but I just had to tell you what an awesome UN you have!

Once I read it, I couldn't help saying it periodically through out the day.

I am anxious to see what some of the "Quail Pros" say about this because I have had problems mixing smaller ones with bigger ones - especially males. Set some time aside so you can be with them if you decide to do this. I'm sure you will have to break up a few fights before they settle down. Keep a close eye on any dominant roo.

The A&Ms seem pretty mild mannered. DH put a cochin chick in with them last week "to keep it warm" instead of having to set up another brooder. I must say they have done well. What I guess are hens sit on top of it like a momma chicken;) I have tried several times to get it out, but they hide it at the end of the cage I can't reach.

If I haven't noticed any crowing in the 6 week old A&Ms do you think we might just not have any roos? I don't want the new baby coturnix to get hurt, but I must say it would suit me to have just one brooder going;)

I wouldn't...those 6 week olds hormones are raging, putting itty bitties in with them will just get them torchered and maybe even killed. I'd wait until they are atleast 5 weeks old before putting them in with the olders. that's just met tho
