when do chicks need a perch?

im getting chicks soon and was wondering if it would be ok to put a brick in for them to perch? when do they start to try perching on things?

I usually put a stick in with them a few inches off the ground when they are about 2 weeks old, not too high. some will climb on it, some will not.

i put a stick in the brooder for them to roost on. when they are real young i just put the stick on the floor of the brooder, as they get older i start raising it up. i put several in at different levels for them to get on.

is their any danger of them falling of the brick or is it fine

a brick is really not a perch, they like to wrap their toes around something to hold on, think it is like security.we do put the waterer on a brick though when they get a little bigger to keep the pine shavings out of it.
