So I hear that bad eggs will eventually explode. When does that usually occur? What if some eggs are dark? Should you be able to see much in there at any point? I set eggs yesterday and today. Shipped eggs. Just planning ahead. 8)

The rotten eggs smell realy bad. If the egg starts to smell like sulfer, get rid of it.

They most likely won't go that bad in the 21 day incubation period. It's after that period, when people have
exploders. Basically just keep track of them and know what your looking for in a viable egg when candling. You
will also be able to smell the rotten eggs before they explode.

No matter when you smell rotten egg go looking for it and pitch it! I bought some eggs a while ago and had a whole bunch of bad ones early on. I'm sure they must have been old when I got them as they shouldn't go bad that fast.

Have fun and I hope you have lots of chicks soon.

Be vigilant for rotten eggs but don't get in a panic about it. If your hygiene procedures are adequate rotten eggs will be pretty rare. I've never had an exploding egg yet and I've only ever had one rotten one; on day 20 under a broody she kicked it out and when I cracked it open (after candling and being sure it wasn't viable) it was all greeny black and gooey...

As a Kid I remember finding an abandon nest in a patch of weeds.Decided to bomb my L Bro with them the first 2 or 3 worked great. As he ran for Mom (i gave this one a mighty throw it Blew up in my hand right next to my head) Rough handleing or sudden surge of throwing did it.Mom didn't even whip me (she said just cleaning yourself would do) Next time i will take the whipping and let her clean me up.What a Stinking mess I was...cva34
