When do Mallards lay?

Exactly that. They're about 20 weeks, I guess, and this evening when I closed them up, I checked to make sure they were all there and I noticed they had been digging in the bedding- two nests, all the way to the floor. They've never done this before, so I wondered if they were going to lay soon?

im not sure if im right but i beleive mallards are wild birds so will lay seasonally
