I have 6 month old hens and roosters, my roosters are always trying to mate my hens and I REALLY want baby chicks LOL when can I expect any to go broody? They all are in a coop and have a run but it also isn't fenced over the top so once they figure out how to fly out of the fence they then are free range and come back at night (my year and a half old ladies do that) my year olds have not yet went broody but are also red stars and I hear they rarely go broody!!

Some of my birds go broody by 7 months of age, and some never go broody. It really depends, but I've found about 1 year is the average time for most.

Any hybrid will never go broody- what breed are your chickens?
I have an Orpington, a blue and black Cochin, Delaware, New Hampshire, two Easter eggers, barred rock, speckled Hamburg, rhodebisland red and white leghorn and couple others LOL!! I have about 14 different breeds. My roosters are a polish lace and a blue Andalusian and let me tell you the blue Andalusian he is quite the king!!

Thank you!! I want babies so bad and just am waiting for them to start acting broody my red stars are losing neck feathers (not sure if that's molting? Or what) but they are about a year and a half!! They lay wherever they feel like laying LOL

Tell that to my sex links. Them stoopid things are in and out of the broody breaker.
See mine are losing feathers around their neck and constantly fight with my big rooster they were in the coop first before I got the 6 month olds and they even put the roosters in their place!!
