I have 10 week old babies. Two are roosters. We close them up tight at night in a horse stall converted into hen house. When I go out in the morning I feed the horse which is right across from the hen house. I heard this odd noise. Sounded like a sick chicken I rushed over to and unlocked the door and thankfully everyone was fine. I've heard every morning this week. Then it FINALLY dawned on me they might be trying to crow. I'm aching to see them, but they stop as soon as I open the door. I was just wondering if anyone knew.
Thanks

My DH likened a roo's first crow to the sound a dog would make when choking to death.

They can crow anywhere from a few days old to a year old or older.

That's probably exactly what you are hearing. They get better at it with practice!

I've had them start as young as five DAYS old. Mostly, they start between six weeks and 12 weeks old, in my experience, though. The latest one here was 18 weeks.
