When do they start to perch?

hey folks I have chicks that are almost 6 weeks old, and they still haven’t started perching. They all still like to puppy pile to sleep. When does that behaviour start happening? They have had perches available to them from about week 2.

Mine are four weeks old and while they spend time on the perches during the day, they still sleep on the floor of their coop in a pile too.

I put chicks in the coop last year at 4 weeks... the first night they slept in a pile...

Second night I put each of them on the roosts after dark...

Third night I think about half went to roost on their own, and I put the others up there after dark...

I think after that they all put themselves to bed like big girls and boys.... or it took one more night... I forgot but they picked it up quickly either way.

like @OhZark Biddies indicates - manually put them on the perches at night when it is dark and they will stay on them till morning. They should get the hang of it pretty quickly.
