When does egg laying start?

I have RIRs and assorted Bantams. I am wondering at what age do they usually start laying?

It depends on the breeds. I think that my Rhode Island Reds started at 18 weeks of age

!8 weeks that means I am half way to a fresh egg for breakfast everyday!!!

I will never forget my first egg. My daughter would run to the house with her hand held high into the air with the little itty bitty egg in her hand. So happy almost like it was christmas

But for some it is later. 18 weeks is early, some will even start at 16 weeks.- but often it is 20-24 weeks and beyond.

20 seems to be a good average to count on for big girls, I don't know about bantams though.
