So I get home this evening from my day-long errands (it's state fair week starting up) and my husband announces that the coop will be finished, with a temporary roof, and we are moving the Keets into their coop mansion tonight! Any normal time it would've taken WEEKS to get my coop built but he says "the house is starting to stink!"

When I first got my Keets 3 weeks ago I put them in a brooder box with heat lamp in the guest bedroom! The way I saw it they were guests...til they grew a little older! Then at about a week and a half I moved them down to the basement in a much larger, contained area, ensuring they would receive enough heat. Also at this time I had to upgrade the size of the feed and watering systems. :/

Now my little Keets will be 3 weeks old tomorrow and love to try out their ever-growing wings/feathers. I was afraid it will not be long and these little birds will be flying all over my basement! Well tonight they spent their first night in their new coop mansion! Hubby is doing a great job on it and it there is still some work to be done but he put down a nice, soft straw bedding and went to the woods and found a dead branch that the bark had fallen off, trimmed it with his chain saw and put it in the coop for the little Keets to learn to roost on! It's mostly pretty low but does have a few extended little branches with some height. WONDERFUL new environment for them! :D

Tomorrow I have to go buy a different, larger feed/watering system for them. Any other time this would've been fine on short notice, but, remember, the state fair is starting up this week. Already the shelves on the local livestock feed and seed places are bare! I would like to build a system using those nipple type systems...hopefully I can find them. :/

My husband is an OTR Trucker and leaves tomorrow for 8-10 days which I'm sure was the catalyst for this building frenzy today! I have Fibromyalgia and Rheumatoid Arthritis and I know he wanted to get this done so those "birds" would be out of the house and stop stinking the place up by the time he returns! There's no way I could've done it on my own. He's a great guy! ;)

Like a new mother I'm a little anxious about their first night in their "mansion" outside. I do feel confident about their security system...I'll keep you posted on the progress! I'll try to figure out how to post pictures tomorrow...key word: try!!
:D
