My 8 week old Pekin ladies started molting this week. They still have piles of feathers, but have lost that thick chenille look. Are there times of the season or in their development when it is normal to molt, and if they’re molting when they shouldn’t, is there anything that causes a molt I should know about and anything I can do for it?
My gals have lots of fresh rice straw every day. I don’t do deep litter, I have a large dog kennel tray in the bottom of their coop and I slide it out and wash it daily. The girls have bins to bathe in that we refresh twice a day as well as a creek to swim in every day/every other day. They are pretty dang meticulous about the fluff and fold.
They did go off Mazuri starter feed and are on the maintenance feed. Don’t know if that would do it.
