No, I keep a ratio of 1 rooster to about 10 hens in the mix and have a graduated age on the roosters. That is the Alpha rooster is about 5 years old and the younger ones are a year apart. I cull any aggressive to human Roos and those that harass the hens too much. The rooster that will take a treat from my hand and then call a hen over to eat it gets a "save" from the chopping block. The age progression maintains order without widespread violence you get with too many roosters in the flock all of the same age fighting for Alpha position. Since I hatch my own eggs and have for many years, I've developed a nice friendly flock. I practice bio-security by never bringing adult chickens into the mix, only chicks when I want to add a genetic trait to my flock.
